The Innovative Hudson Yards Development

Today we want to discuss the new Hudson Yards development that is happening right now in Manhattan- right between Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen. This is the “largest private real estate development in the history of the United States and the largest development in New York City since the Rockefeller Center.” And the architecture of this multi-functional living-shopping-dining experience has some of the most stunning architecture and innovative environmental techniques we’ve seen in quite some time.

This ambitious project began in 2012 and is said to be completed by 2024 with over 18 million sq. ft. of residential and commercial space. It’s going to have 100 shopping destinations including Neiman Marcus and specially curated restaurants from the renowned Chef Thomas Keller. The Vice President, Tom O’Halloran, says it’s like “a city within a city” and will have “roughly the same square footage as the central business district in Dallas.” It really will be its own functioning community within one of the most populated cities in the world.

The Hudson Yards looks like something out of Dubai… something so avant-garde and affluent that it’s hard to imagine actually visiting and enjoying a sight like this. We specifically love the openness and over 14 acres total of garden space throughout the construction. Incorporating nature in architecture is extremely valuable and necessary especially when you’re in such a dense city like the Concrete Jungle.

The Hudson Yards is a truly inspirational design that is just what we need. It is something so futuristic that perfectly encompasses what the new New York is all about. The juxtaposition of materials and textures such as the steel, metals, and glass with the variety of gardens, grass stairways, and abundant trees. Then you have the incredible amount of residential space near 5-star dining and shopping experiences. The Hudson Yards reads like every architecture student’s dream sketch that is actually coming to life.
