Get the Look: Effortless Bohemian Dining Room

We got some great feedback from our first post of the new series “Get The Look”. (Check it out here!) It featured a classic bohemian living room full of 60’s vibes and super unique designs. Sooooo, we’re continuing that with a fairly similar post but instead of a sitting room, it’s our bohemian dining inspiration! In case you missed the first post, this style is all about looking effortlessly thrown together while still being extremely chic. In order to accomplish the desired look, we’re combining some of the most influential designs in history- Scandinavian, Middle Eastern, Mid-century, and Art-deco. They are all so different, but with the right pieces put together, you can create the perfect paradise!

This is our inspiration and as you can see there is a lot going on. (in a good way!!) The trickiest part about creating a bohemian space is the variety that’s out there. Some spaces are slightly more modern, some slightly more mid century, some slightly more luxe… but that’s what also makes this incredibly easy. You have the ability to manipulate the space so that it faces in your direction of style.

Based on the photos of inspiration these are some patterns we’re noticing:

  • Middle Eastern rugs
  • wooden tables
  • Scandinavian chairs
  • sheepskins thrown on chairs
  • unique lighting choices
  • lots of artwork OR lack of artwork (simplicity)
  • tons of plants

So with that in mind, let’s focus on the main ingredients for our bohemian recipe…

1. Wooden, Scandinavian Dining Table:

1. Design Within Reach // 2. West Elm // 3. Rove Concepts

Classic, wooden legs look sturdy and add some earth to your home, which is exactly what you need to create the Bohemian look you’re going for! We think it’s safest to go for a simple table, and add some eccentricity with the other pieces. However, there are so many great, different options would work in this case.

2. Mid-Century Dining Chairs:

1. Knoll // 2. West Elm // 3. CB2

First, we love the class Cesca chair (#1) for its innate ability to look so classically stylish! The other two are fantastic options as well for the simplicity and practicality. There are countless other types of chairs that would work perfectly in this space depending on which style you want to bring out.

3. Middle-Eastern Rugs:

1. 1st Dibs // 2. Belk // 3. Chairish

You can never have too many vintage rugs… Whether you’re looking for an authentic Persian or an American polyester, these rugs never get old. The variety of colors, patterns and textures are endless- as well as the amount of styles they can accommodate.

4. Art-deco Lighting:

1. Jonathan Adler // 2. Z Gallerie // 3. CB2

A lot of the photos for our inspiration use big gold/brass lighting with a lot of detail. Some play into a more Art Deco  style while some play with that classic 50’s “starburst” style. Really anything that’s slightly different from the norm while still not straying too far away from sleek, steamed lines is the way to go!

5. Classic vs. New Decor:

1. Jonathan Adler // 2. Z Gallerie // 3. West Elm // 4. CB2 // 5. Ikea // 6. Jonathan Adler

Here are just a few fantastic options to liven up your boho space! We love the color scheme because it’s fresh and natural while still not being boring. Throw in a gorgeous fiddle leaf fig tree, a sheepskin over a chair, and a vintage candid photograph by one of the best- Slim Aarons- and you’re going to easily complete this look!
