1st Dibs Finds: Art Deco Edition

Scouring through 1st Dibs is a daily habit. There are so many amazing pieces of furniture, lighting, rugs, even folk art that you literally cannot find anywhere else which is why we wanted to introduce this new series. From vintage Le Corbusier chairs to 6th Century Greek sculptures, it doesn’t get better than 1st Dibs. And truthfully, the “digging” isn’t that difficult- it’s not like thrift shopping where you may find one or two good items. It’s a full on treasure chest depending on your personal style or interest at the moment. We recently made a trade account with the site to receive designer benefits and learned about some of their new improvements. They’ve added a “New & Custom” section that is just as you’d expect: brand new and/or custom made pieces. This makes shopping so much easier for designers or home owners who are looking for a special statement piece but don’t want something used or antique. There are still specially curated items, some made by designers who haven’t fully gotten their name out there but that are doing really innovative things in the design world and cater well to the 1st Dibs community because of their originality.

1st Dibs Finds:

To get into this new series of “Is Dibs Finds” we’re going to feature different styles or even have a specific designer in mind during the searching. This week we were headed in an Art Deco- Art Nouveau- Hollywood Regency- Modern Baroque- direction. Bringing in streamlined pieces with some circular emphasis, brass accents, velvet upholstery, and fur or hide textures. Along with mixing in classic French and Asian influences to really inhibit the “Hollywood Regency” vibe. We’re kind of going with a little Dorothy Draper inspiration here except without going overboard on color contrasts and chintz fabrics. Using more of a 70’s color scheme with stark black and white lines, burnt orange, emerald green, etc. to collectively envision the new wave of Art Deco design.

1st Dibs is the only resource out there that sells such high quality vintage pieces and specially curated items for the average person rather than solely designers. And although we realize a lot of their prices seem extremely high, there are no other retailers that have options like this. Where else can you find Ancient Greek coins from 200 B.C., Chinese hand-painted screens from the 1700’s, and original Milo Baughman Circular Sectionals?! You just can’t get this anywhere else.
